Pathways Teacher Julie De-La Mare Reeves and students from the Pathways Conservation and Gardening Groups have successfully transformed one of the Deanfield campus gardens into a thriving Bee Sanctuary, with the support of the local charity Greener Henley.

For weeks, the students dedicated themselves to learning about the critical role bees play in our ecosystem. They studied the environments these vital pollinators need to thrive, gaining in-depth knowledge about the challenges bees face and how to create a habitat that supports their well-being.

The sanctuary was a result of this hands-on learning and collaboration. The project was not only a way for students to apply their environmental education but also an opportunity to make a real-world impact on local biodiversity.

On completion, the students invited Diana Barnett from Greener Henley to officially open the sanctuary. Diana attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony and was given a guided tour of the garden, where she was impressed by the hard work and passion the students had put into the project.

The project was a true team effort, with each student contributing to the sanctuary’s design, planting, and maintenance. The bee-friendly environment they’ve created at Deanfield College is expected to become a valuable space for both local wildlife and ongoing student education.

A heartfelt congratulations to everyone who participated in this fantastic initiative—your hard work has truly created something special.
