This festive season, The Henley College is proud to partner with Riverside Counselling Service for its annual Christmas Appeal.
The initiative aims to raise awareness and funds for the vital mental health support provided by this local charity to individuals in Henley and the surrounding areas. Riverside Counselling offers a lifeline for adults, young people, and children by providing a safe space for open conversations and professional support at a time when mental well-being is more important than ever.
The appeal is a collaborative effort across the college. Students will take part in fundraising activities throughout the campus, with collection points set up by library staff to encourage donations. As part of the campaign, Riverside’s Chief Executive Officer, Sophie Wellings, will deliver an inspiring talk to Psychology students, sharing insights into the critical role of counselling and mental health services in the community. Additionally, through the college’s PPD (Personal Professional Development) tutorial programme, all students will have the opportunity to join a virtual session focusing on resilience and wellbeing.
Libby Robey, Student Union President, expressed the significance of the appeal:
"Riverside Counselling is such a lifeline for people in our community, especially during tough times. Supporting their Christmas Appeal feels like a way we can give back and show how much we care. It's not just about raising money – it’s about making sure support is there for anyone who needs it, and that really matters to us as students."
Principal Simon Spearman highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating:
"At The Henley College, we are committed to supporting the mental wellbeing of our students, staff, and the wider community. Riverside Counselling’s work is invaluable, and this appeal not only helps raise funds but also reinforces the importance of mental health awareness. Together, we can make a meaningful impact this Christmas, spreading hope and resilience to those who need it most.”
Sophie Wellings, Chief Executive Officer of Riverside Counselling, expressed her gratitude for the partnership:
"We are delighted to have been chosen by The Henley College as their charity partner. Our work with young people and adults seeking support for their mental well-being remains as vital as ever. Opportunities like this to raise awareness of our services and generate much needed funding are incredibly valued and make a real difference in our community."
Riverside Counselling plays a crucial role in breaking down barriers to mental health services, ensuring access for those who may otherwise be unable to afford it. By supporting this appeal, The Henley College hopes to strengthen the reach of Riverside's services and promote a culture of wellbeing and resilience.
