Simon Spearman Appointed as New Principal of The Henley College
Two second-year French A-Level students, Lola Bint-Savage and Rosie Wilga, took the opportunity during Black History Month to research and present on two remarkable Black French women:
Josephine Baker and Paulette Nardal. Both Baker and Nardal were pivotal figures in the French Resistance during World War II, an area of focus in their current curriculum. Lola wrote about Josephine Baker and Rosie wrote about Paulette Nardal, they wrote the papers in French then translated into Engligh.
The project allowed the students to deepen their understanding of resistance and the roles of influential Black figures in French history. With a greater awareness of Baker's and Nardal’s legacies, Bint-Savage and Wilga have helped bring lesser-known voices to the forefront during Black History Month, enriching their peers' appreciation for the diverse narratives that define history.
