A Level Art incorporates the traditional areas of Art theory and history, drawing, print making, mixed media with some digital and sculptural processes. It is broad and appealing to critical thinking of contemporary issues and contexts aiming to embed theory and skills through a holistic and an experimental development phase moving into greater refinement and consolidated final outcomes in a variety of media.
Year 2 allows students to develop a personal project that can explore a variety of narratives that underpin learning through to the completion of an essay and exam style brief with preparation and resolved final outcome(s). Trips take in a variety of galleries, museums and overseas visits along with guest speakers from creative industries. Portfolio guidance and university processes are also supported and focused on to allow students to transition to art school, university or vocational employment within the arts.
You are also encouraged to supplement your programme with the Extended Project.
This course’s modular structure will provide you with a wide range of experiences and opportunities designed to encourage the development of strong personal qualities in your artwork.
There are many options for those seeking a career in art, including teacher, animator, architect, designer, web developers, illustrator, games design, interior design, accessory design, commercial artist and more.
A large number of our students go on to study Art and Design at a higher level. Subject to tutors’ recommendations and a portfolio interview, this course guarantees the offer of a place on the College’s post A Level Foundation course in Art and Design.
