COURSE OVERVIEW

English Language is a highly regarded and well established subject. Language represents a vital part of our everyday lives, influencing the behaviour of social groups and the structure of our whole society.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Before You Start

You may be required to complete an activity before you start in order to help introduce you to the subject. Check back in the summer term for more details.

Course Content

We are continually talking and texting, browsing the internet, sharing stories, giving advice, watching television and reading a book or magazine. You will examine language use, capture your own data (actual examples of spoken and written language) and learn to use a range of research methods. Other areas of study include accents and dialects, conversational analysis, technology and language, power and language, language and social change (links well to History and Politics) and child language acquisition.

You are also encouraged to supplement your programme with the Extended Project.
