Graphic Communications (Animation)

Assessment: 60% Personal Investigation, 40% Externally set assignment
Exam Board: Eduqas
Duration: 2 Years
Costs: Studio Fee of £25 plus the cost of sketchbooks, photographic materials and USB memory sticks
Entry Requirements: English grade 4, Maths grade 4, Art grade 5. Plus one grade 5 and two grade 4s from your remaining subjects.

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course engages with a range of skills such as digital (the adobe suite), editorial, branding and packaging, poster design, typography and material experimentation as well as animation. Students will learn to use these new skills to produce a range of outcomes that satisfy Graphic Design and Animation briefs and build a portfolio of work that demonstrates an understanding of design to enable progression to further studies in the Arts.

You may be required to complete an activity before you start in order to help introduce you to the subject. Check back in the summer term for more details.

Course Content

You will explore both traditional and contemporary approaches to graphic design and animation. The first year will introduce you to techniques and software as well as help you develop a personal style through experimentation and development of briefs and outcomes. Your second year will build on and develop the skills learned in the first year in order to create unique and innovative outcomes to design/animation briefs and build a portfolio of work. You will benefit from the expertise of practicing graphic designers and visits from Aardman.

  • Develop a varied skill set in graphic design and animation, enabling you to bring original concepts and artistic visions to life.

  • Explore processes to complete assignments, software and associated technologies, including drawing, story-boarding and photography.
  • Use university-standard equipment and professional-grade software in our new Mac suites.
  • Access a range of cameras, lighting, lenses and tripods
    through our loans system.
  • Learn from subject specialists who are passionate about passing their knowledge and skills onto you.
  • Visits to exhibitions and studios. Live projects when available.

LIFE AFTER HENLEY

Careers and opportunities in the creative industries are varied and include Film / TV / Web design and graphic design. As a student you will create an extensive portfolio to showcase your work.
