Textiles

Assessment: Coursework (60%), Controlled Assessment (40%)
Duration: 2 Years
Costs: Purchase of portfolio and materials plus optional visits to exhibitions. Trips usually cost between £10-15, with the exception of the Bath trip which is around £20. There are approximately 4-5 trips per year.
Entry Requirements: English grade 5, Maths grade 4. Plus one grade 5 and three grade 4s from your remaining subjects. Interest/passion in Art Textiles must be shown.

COURSE OVERVIEW

This is a fine art textiles course which will offer you the opportunity to explore a wide range of textile techniques.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Before You Start

You may be required to complete an activity before you start in order to help introduce you to the subject. Check back in the summer term for more details.

Year 1

You will do workshops in felting, batik, tie-dye, screen printing, block printing, hand embroidery and machine embroidery. There will be the chance to learn many more skills throughout the course to encourage the development of strong personal qualities in your textile work. You are required to complete two units of work each year.

Year 2

In year two you will be encouraged to work more independently and develop your work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of your choice into a finished product to include practical work and an essay.

You are also encouraged to supplement your programme with the Extended Project.

LIFE AFTER HENLEY

Careers

There are many career options for students who have skills in Textiles, including in the Fashion and Textiles industry. Possible roles include designers, buyers, innovation, clothing manufacturing engineers, screen printers and many more

Higher Education

A key course for students planning to continue on to university to study subjects including fine art textiles, textile design, fashion design, fashion marketing and costume design. Subject to tutors’ recommendations and a portfolio interview, this course guarantees the offer of a place on the College’s post A Level Foundation course in Art and Design.

ENRICHMENT

Students are required to complete at least 30 hours of enrichment per academic year whilst studying at The Henley College, learn more about Enrichment here.
