Simon Spearman Appointed as New Principal of The Henley College
The Henley College recently hosted a Student Voice Conference as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing educational quality and student experience.
The conference, held this week, provided an opportunity for students and staff to evaluate the college's strategic successes and areas needing improvement. Participants engaged in insightful discussions, emphasising the importance of each individual's voice in shaping the college's future direction.
Feedback from students was that the activities and discussions were enjoyable and fostered a sense of community and fun, while the focus on teaching, learning, and enrichment activities added depth and relevance to their experience.
"It was great to feel that our perspectives on college life matter, making us feel valued. These kinds of sessions are invaluable for understanding what aspects of the college are working well and what might continue to inspire and engage students” shared one student participant.
Key members of the Senior Leadership Team, including Principal & Chief Executive Satwant Deol and Vice Principal Eamonn Egan, actively participated in the conference, facilitating direct interactions with students.
Mike Ashton, the Chair of Governors, who also participated in the event remarked “I am delighted by the engaged and thoughtful discussions that took place at our Student Voice Conference. Hearing directly from our students is crucial in our pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement. We are committed to translating their insights into concrete actions that will elevate our educational standards and enhance the college experience."
The conference was organised by Suzanne Plaister, Assistant Principal of Quality, who commented that. "The Student Voice Conference is a key focus in our quest to drive up educational standards. It was truly inspiring to see our learners articulate their views with confidence and provide some really insightful feedback that we can take forward into our planning and preparation for next year.”
Students shared feedback on various aspects of college life, including teaching and learning, enrichment and operational policies like lanyard usage. This feedback, gathered through initiatives like 'You said, we did,' ensures that student perspectives directly influence decision making at senior management level.
The college's emphasis on student participation and feedback reflects its dedication to nurturing independence and resilience where students actively contribute to shaping the college's future and who are poised for success in higher education, their individual careers and beyond.
