Course Overview

A wide-ranging subject which touches on every aspect of commercial life, Economics examines how an economy works and how individuals and organisations make decisions that impact upon the world in which we live and work.

This course will broaden your understanding of government policy-making and the global environment. It will encourage you to evaluate some of the consequences of the choices made by businesses and governments.

Exam (100%)

Duration: 2 years
Entry requirements:

Standard entry requirements plus grade 5 in GCSE English Language or Literature and grade 6 in Maths.

Exam board: OCR
Costs:

£25 per year for textbooks and a calculator.

Careers

There are a range of options for students to consider for a career in economics. These include economist roles, teacher/lecturer, accountant, statistician and finance. Students may consider direct entry into employment or further training.

Higher education

This course is excellent preparation for students planning to continue on to university to study subjects including economics, accounting, banking and finance, business and management. Economics also provides a strong grounding for those wishing to pursue many other subject areas at degree level and is a core subject in the exams set by most professional bodies.
